Please give us a short summary of your website?
SpokaneSportsman.com is a classifieds website specifically for the outdoorsman who are selling or searching for products or services related to hunting, fishing, and camping in and around the Spokane area.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
This was something I have been thinking about for a very long time, but with so many websites out there today, I was thinking about what I could do that would separate my website from other websites. Then it hit me as I started to think about what it was that I was passionate about, and how it could benefit others who have the same type of interests.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
This is my first website and it was launced just recently in 2008.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Well I knew I was going to make it specific to my region so right away I had Spokane in mind as part of the name. I then thought about all of the other possibilities that would bring hunting, fishing, and camping all together and came up with a few possibilities, but the one that sounded best and stuck with me the most was SpokaneSportsman.com.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
There are tons of classified websites out there, but most are general, dating, or employment classifieds. SpokaneSportsman.com is a niche website that caters to hunters, fishermen, and campers in a specific region. Not only can you place or search ads for specific types of products, but you can come to this website and find tons of information in relation to the outdoorsman. This website is truly locally owned and operated by a Spokane outdoorsman who has lived in this area for over 30 years, and has a passion for the great outdoors.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal is to make SpokaneSportsman.com your one stop destination for all things hunting, fishing, and camping related for the Spokane and surrounding areas. Essentially bringing all of the hunting, fishing, and camping community to one location.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely, i'm prepared to face any challenges that may come my way to make SpokaneSportsman.com successful.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Marketing.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Learning HTML on my own through tons of research and reading, and lots of trial and error. I find it very interesting though and the challenge keeps me motivated to learn more.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Sponsored ads and word of mouth. My marketing campaign has only begun to scratch the surface though, and it is my hope to eventually make SpokaneSportsman.com a household name.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have only been marketing the website for about a month, and I plan to continue marketing on a daily basis. I will not give up on this website until i've exausted every possible avenue to no prevail. In other words, I plan on keeping this website around for a very very long time.
