What is your website about?
FishingBuddy is fishing network for South african anglers. Anglers can sign up for a free account and get to make friend connections, discuss fishing or fishing related topics, give or receive advice and showcase their latest catches and fishing trips. Profile functionality includes groups, comment wires, photo albums and private messaging as well as the ability to link to your youtube videos or flickr albums.
What inspired you to launch a fishing website?
I wanted to try something different, and Love to fish. I thought my own fishing website would be cool.
What other websites do you have?
I also have East London Fly Fishing, a Fly Fishing only site for East Londoners. Unfortunately this site hasnt kicked off but its still there waiting for attention.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
In Sa there are no fishing social networks as such that break away from the forum/bulletin mould. My site does things differently
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I would like to keep the site, fishing is one of my passions so staying with the communities I create will be the only way to go.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Well, I've put in alot of time and I hope it pays off. I'm still waiting for the rush to happen
What type of fishing does your network cover?
All types of fishing, whether its fly fishing, dropshot, deep sea, salt or fresh, stream or dam. It doesnt matter whether you have a boat or not, or what type of species fish you catch. Only criteria is that you love to catch fish
What else do you offer members?
For members that would like to display their adventures in fishing with more freedom of expression or a place to call their own we also offer a free blog on request. I'll be there to answer any support questions or help you get set up.
What has been your biggest challenge?
I think the biggest challenge so far is traffic generation
What future developments do you have in mind for your site?
Soon you'll have group forum functionality. So any interest groups you create will have forum like topic discussions. At the moment its just a group wall. In the future you'll be able to post status updates like what you're doing etc etc. We'll also have better photo album support
