Guzman's Greenhouse Interview

By Interviewer at 07/19/07 15:50

Name of your website?

Guzman's Greenhouse

Your name?

Paul Guzman

Your Location (city, etc)

Las Cruces

When did you start your website and why?

I started it about 4 years ago. I was looking for information regarding southwestern gardening and could not find much. We have two retail greenhouses located in Las Cruces, NM. The website is about southwestern gardening and our family retail stores.

Please give us a short summary of your website, business model, etc

Our website has tons of free gardening information. We have tips on vegetables, roses, tree care and a whole lot more.

What has been the most difficult part of creating and running your website?

That is easy. Time...never seem to have enough time to update it publish articles, blog, adding new information it is really time consuming. But I love doing it!

What has been the easist part of operating your website?

The graphics I love doing graphics....plus all the email we get from visitors thanking us for fixing their gardening problems.

What was your biggest mistake?

Re-desiging the original website. It took me forever plus I had to deal with the duplicate content issue..

Who maintains your website and why?

I do....Paul Guzman I am the general manager of Guzman's Greenhouse located in Las Cruces NM, and webmaster of guzmansgreenhouse.com I was the only one in our family business that knew the basics. You know FTP, downloading, HTML, PHP and I once worked as a problem solver for local ISP company.

Tell us how your business has benefitted from your website?

Wow....our retail business has benefitted greatly. Our local customers are impressed by all the free good information that is on our website. We also generate a good second income with our adsense links.

What are your views on ecommerce and the future of the internet?

I beleive the future is in video....I don't know how soon but by my observance it seems that video will someday replace plain text, and static type websites. If you've read the latest news you may already know that tv viewers are dwindling at a record pace! I am now in the learning process of making gardening videos. The younger generation is on to the world wide web train. Better hop on board!

What are your views on Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

SEO is actually easy (except for google). I don't consider myself very techie or brainy but if I dit it anyone can. Our website is placed in the top 10 of many of the s.e.'s using our keywords. Google is a tuff nut to crack.

What are your views on Search Engines? Have they helped or hindered your website?

S.E's are great they provide me with FREE traffic. It has taken 4 years but it is free.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Search Engines.

What method has been least successful for promoting your website?

PPC has been a real pain in the.....ummmm....well I tried it numerous times but I usually break even.

What would you like to see change with respect to the internet?

We need to control spam/virus and illegal get rich schemes. We need websites with good original content.

What is your website address?

Guzman's Greenhouse
