Birding In Michigan Interview

By Interviewer at 01/22/08 23:17

Name of your website?

Birding In Michigan

Your name?

Shelley

Your Location (city, etc)

Dearborn

Please give us a short summary of your website?

This site details my bird watching activities in Michigan. I am posting pictures of birds I observe as well as sharing my "bird adventure" stories.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Love of birds and nature!

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

My 1st website was about building a log cabin in Michigan In keeping with my interest in nature and the great outdoors - I then started my 2nd site about birding.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Wanted to promote all the great bird watching opportunities in Michigan.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

The only differential perhaps is that it's my own personal amateur bird watching experiences.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To keep documenting and add as many Michigan birds to my life list as possible. I also want to encourage other birdwatchers as to the opportunities in Michigan.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

This is just fun - so it's already a success.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would have live streaming video of the birds that visit my bird feeders and bird baths.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes - maybe build a new site.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

None.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Improving my photography skills so I can post great pictures of the birds I see.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Just sharing with other birdwatchers.

What is your favorite bird?

The friendly black-capped chickadee. I had a great experience hand feeding them at Hartwick Pines State Park.

What bird would you most like to see that you haven't as of yet?

A pileated woodpecker.

What is your website address?
