Please give us a short summary of your website?
Boating 4x4 Camping is an online store supplying boating accessories, 4x4 accessories, camping equipment, fishing tackle and caravan accessories. We also have a wide variety of other services such as photo galleries, articles, classifieds, events calendar, forums, tide times, weather search, moon phase and much more.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I love boating, four wheel driving, fishing and pretty much anything to do with the outdoors. I wanted a business that gave me an income with the freedom to enjoyall of the above.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
The first website launched was boating4x4camping.com and it was launched almost 2 years ago.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted a name that was self explainatory
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
We don't just sell equipment, we also give our readers many other services such as photo galleries, forums, classifieds and more, and some of these services are free.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Our long term plan is to keep the business and keep growing it slowly.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
As the business is not quite 2 years old their is still alot of promotional and set up work happening but we do see the light at the end of the tunnel
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
With an unlimited budget we would stock a lot more products making it possible to reduce our turn around time for delivery.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Most certainly. We have the business geared up in such a way that it almost runs itself and is quite easy to maintain, we would certainly be able to handle and welcome more business.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
We haven't really had unexpected costs but all businesses do experience headaches, ours is getting the business recognised and well ranked.
What has been your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge has been starting, creating and maintaining a website when i had never done this before.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
We have spent thousands of dollars advertising in many different magazines which achieved nothing. We have benifited more by spending a lot of time on website optimization
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
With other businesses i have owned and run it was much easier to get things rolling, people drive by your business and before you know it you have customers. Wbsite businesses are a lot harder to get going than i thought they would be.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
This site is the businesses new site and has only been online for a few months, it replaces the .com site which was online for almost 2 years. At this stage we have no intentions to remove this site, obviously we will update it as we grow.
